Life is not experienced through the mind alone.
There lies within our biology a divine connection that must be recognized, honored, and practiced. The connection between our mind and our heart allows us to fully experience the magic of life.
Recalibrate
After my divorce in late 2021, I was a wreck in every sense of the word. I made several decisions from this place of weakness that, while not in my best interest at the time, served me well through painful learning experiences.
These experiences catapulted me into a new, rigorous chapter of growth, both personally and professionally. I invested in a high-level mentoring program, hired a media agency to help manage my jewelry company, and prioritized my physical fitness. It was time to focus on nourishing myself back to life.
Deciding to invest in these three areas completely changed my life. Surrounding myself with a community of business owners and entrepreneurs helped me realize that no one, not even businesses five times my size, has it all figured out. We shared similar challenges. For the first time, I didn’t feel alone in entrepreneurship. I had mentors who listened to my problems and helped me discover solutions.
Hiring an agency to grow my jewelry brand was a game-changer. I finally felt like I had a partner invested in my growth. Choosing an outside agency instead of hiring in-house was the best decision I could have made because they offered an external perspective on how the brand appeared, which is crucial in branding. When you’re inside the fishbowl, it’s hard to understand how the world perceives you.
Lastly, I committed to my health, going to the gym every weekday before work. Additionally, I implemented a gratitude and meditation practice, which completely transformed my energy before interacting with anyone. The community at my gym even noticed my progress and celebrated my wins with me. Not only was that encouraging, but it also motivated me to keep up the hard work!
The Results
One year later, I tripled our revenue, vastly expanded my network, and became the strongest I’ve ever been—mentally, emotionally, and physically. I was able to share this success with my team by increasing their pay, designing a beautiful new collection inspired by the Cosmos, and giving our jewelry boxes a serious upgrade!
What Is Your Aim?
As I reflect on how I created this new reality, I’m reminded of a lecture by Jordan Peterson where he discusses the importance of our aim. He urges us to ask ourselves if the decisions, habits, and actions we take each day align with our goals. If not, our efforts will miss the mark by the time we reach our destination.
Although I didn’t have all the answers when I started, I trusted the process, knowing I was capable of figuring things out. Everything was uphill from the emotional hole I was in at the time.
Resistance
You don’t need all the answers to reach your goals. To get where you want to go, you must fully accept where you are with gratitude. Without gratitude, you’ll experience constant resistance to your current state, preventing you from being present and showing up to create the future you desire.
Gratitude is a heart-centered practice.
You must sit in stillness and feel gratitude, especially for the parts of your life that have been most challenging. My jewelry company sales were down, my mind and body felt weak, and I felt incredibly alone. When I began giving thanks for where I was and actively eliminated anything that didn’t support my aim, everything changed.
I had to get out of my head and into my feelings.
I couldn’t think my way into getting more sales.
I couldn’t think my way out of loneliness.
I couldn’t think my way into better fitness.
Feel More Intentionally
I started listening to my feelings and practicing what it would feel like to achieve my goals.
From these feelings, I felt guided in how to take action to create better emotions. This was possible through the divine connection of the heart and mind.
The heart knows what it needs, while the mind sometimes second-guesses our intuition, causing a disconnect. The mind is a tool, not a place to live.
My heart guided me on whom to trust, which agency to hire, the best marketing strategies, which relationships to disconnect from, and much more.
The mind can’t tell you how to feel or love. The heart can’t analyze or compute. But when they are in harmony—that’s where the magic lies.
Let your heart guide you, and allow the mind to handle the logistics. Trust your intuition. Above all, remember to practice gratitude throughout the day, for it is the only way to fully experience the present moment and create the future your heart desires.
I leave you with a snippet of Young Pueblo’s Substack post, Mental Tension & Intuition, which is in perfect alignment with the intention of this post:
Create what your intuition is asking you to create. Do this as an act of service. You have no idea who you may end up helping or even the lives you may save simply by following the truth of your heart. Don’t let fear stop you from listening to your inner calling. Don’t let an unclear path discourage you from taking steps into the unknown. The greatest you arises when you begin to embrace the space beyond your comfort zone. You don’t need to have all the answers right now to eventually be successful. You just need to be willing to take one step at a time. Embrace the challenge. Remember how strong you are and how much you have already overcome. You don’t need to move quickly. even slow movement will get you where you want to go. Let yourself live in your power. You hold a unique vision and that is your gift to the world.

First of all, congrats Cristy, bouncing back is not a given, and rising from the ashes like the phoenix, stronger than before, is even less the norm. it takes mental strength to get up, and to recalibrate priorities, reset the path we were on, question our beliefs, the way we were doing things.
Thank you for this post, it’s inspiring and helps me look at and think about where I am on my journey. I’ve come a long way, after a painful experience I recalibrated, didn’t think twice (heart over mind) about leaving my life and a good job in Switzerland to move to Guatemala and make a dream come true I had put aside for too many years. I took up a new challenge and an opportunity to start a new chapter, in terms of where I live, my job, but also my inner life.
What I do still struggle with, despite the progress I made, is allowing myself to think less and feel more. There are still spots my mind is keeping me away from. My mind and heart are having an argument, and for the moment they’re not finding a compromise. I’ll read your post to them, and work to finding that harmony. Thank you
Christy - what a contribution and service to others this essay is.
“The heart knows what it needs, while the mind sometimes second-guesses our intuition, causing a disconnect. The mind is a tool, not a place to live.”
This is really powerful. I’ve discovered via a journey with many similarities to yours that the mind is best used in service to the heart.
I once had a psychologist tell me that the heart is where our decisions and actions come from. The mind serves up all kinds of data, perspectives, etc but it’s the heart that acts. When I’ve been deeply stuck in life it’s when my heart refuses to act on something that my mind wants. And the epiphany I’ve grown into is that the heart can actually see around five corners, and “knows” far more than the mind can put into rows and columns to analyze. Which is why we need to trust and lead with our heart and use our minds to help us implement along the hearts chosen path.
And when we do this, yes it’s like we have a giant tailwind that feels like magic. 🪄
Again, thank you for such a potent essay.
